a few old pictures

High school..back when we all listened to the same music. If anyone remembers where this is from.....

715 20th St.

Biehl, oh biehl

my sister siri helping my carry the tripod and ladder.

On a desolate main street in Waverly this guy was playing music by grocery story. Surreal to say the least. (note the small black sign on the left)

grandma (not mine but someones)

grandpa (same deal)

and...a couple videos to watch.

Come on, is this cute or what?

Seth told me about this last year. Hufu- human flavored tofu. no joke
here is the official website
and
here is a Daily Show piece about it.

This is old but I'll post it for anyone who might have missed it. It was part of a contest to recut a new trailer from an already existing movie to make it look like a completely different movie.

this one was best:
Shining

This one is also funny (minus the unnecessary Brokeback Mountain reference)

bricks

Well, I made the choice to go to USF in Tampa. I wasn't really ready to make the decision but I did anyway. Florida is a gross place but there is something strange and intriguing about it too, the school seems unique as well. I've spent most of my days drawing, wandering, and eating 2 dollar falafel. There are lots of films I'd like to go see but i'm trying to keep from spending too much money. I saw Days of Heaven a couple days ago and it was worth every cent.

For some musical intelligent and funny pranks, go to www.prangstgrup.com. It's a group of young people in NYC. Most of the videos aren't that great but "Lecture Musical" and "Library Musical" are high class. "Start Up Sound" is amusing as well.

Also, before I headed to the East Coast I started a recording project where I made audio recordings of friends telling stories that involved them in some way. Some from high school, early childhood, "adult" life. Anything from Josh's experiences with road kill to Nathan going to a wedding in Africa to Ryan making a big mess at a parade when he was 12. I'm looking to make an archive of stories from people I know. Most of the stories fall within the ridiculous/funny category but I'm looking to collect stories from sad to funny to life changing and everything in between. If you have a good story, you should get ahold of me and I'll try to connect with you somehow sometime.

This guys pet rat crawled all around through his coat and shirt as we sat next to him on the bus. He was prepared to defend "nuggets" to the death from all the people who gave him strange looks and comments.

this is the kind of thing you see when you drive around Jersey City (keep in mind there was nobody else in sight)

Visiting San Diego and more

I visited UCSD in San Diego last week along with the other accepted MFA students. So the decision I need to make regarding where to attend school is even tougher. It was a welcoming wonderful place with people from all over. I'm giving myself a day and a half and then I'm just going to draw a name out of a hat.

I'm also currently looking for a job, anything that will help me pay the rent while I'm here. Suggestions are welcome. I'm going to be doing medical studies until I find something else. Tomorrow I'm going to be doing tests for the control portion of a schizophrenia test. I'm looking forward to earning money again.

I saw Matthew Barney's Drawing Restraint 9 yesterday. I didn't hate it but I'm certainly not going to recommend it to anyone. Well maybe I did hate it, I'm not sure. It was just like Cremaster 3 but with more Bjork, Japanese people, legs falling apart in a room filling with waxy jelly, and the scenarios didn't seem to have the charm that bits of the cremaster movies did. The same sort of narrative progression: things get built (slowly), things fall apart (slowly), things ooze and bleed, girls swim like little mermaids with buckets and pearls fall out of their mouths.... the end. The one plus was Barney's beautiful beard (which gets trimmed off promptly) Because, really, if have the chance to cut someone's hair off in a movie you're going to do it. If it's a choice between Drawing Restraint 9 and Repo Man, I'd suggest Repo Man

I didnt take many pictures in San Diego, but here are a few

Oz? Krypton? No, it's a Mormon temple.

Visiting Florida

This week Meghan and I flew down to Florida to visit a couple of the grad schools I've been accepted to. Everyone was really inviting, wonderful and helpful. Both schools were great in their own ways. I got to see old friends and make new ones. I'll have to make some decisions soon which will be tough.

The three below images are from Ethan and Mikels' collaborative show- a really nice group of work. Both of these guys went to UNI for undergrad and are finishing up at USF.
